Modern Foreign Language

Choose a subject:

Intent

During their time at Seymour Primary School, all pupils have the opportunity to learn to speak, read, write, and understand Spanish. Using the Kapow Primary Spanish scheme of work, children experience a relevant, broad, vibrant, and ambitious curriculum that supports them in reaching their full potential. Pupils apply their learning in a variety of contexts, building strong foundations for future language study.

It is our intent that all pupils develop a genuine interest in and curiosity about foreign languages, finding them stimulating and enjoyable. Through learning Spanish, they explore the connections between language and identity, gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, and develop the confidence to use the language in a range of settings.

How is this subject taught

At our school, we use Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work to teach MFL, aiming to inspire pupils to become curious, confident, and enthusiastic language learners. Lessons are designed to develop pupils’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish, while fostering the confidence to express themselves and explore new ways of thinking through language.
