What is Safeguarding

At Seymour Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. Safeguarding is a priority for our school and forms the ‘golden thread’ that runs through everything we do within our Academy Trust.

According to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), safeguarding means:

  • Protecting children from harm or maltreatment

  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development

  • Ensuring children grow up in safe, caring environments

  • Taking action to help all children achieve the best possible outcomes

Our staff play a vital role in safeguarding. They are well placed to identify concerns early, provide help, promote children’s welfare, and prevent issues from escalating. All staff are responsible for maintaining a safe environment in which children can learn and thrive. They are also expected to identify children who may benefit from Early Help, providing support as soon as a problem arises at any stage of a child’s life.

We believe that all staff and volunteers should create a caring, positive, safe, and stimulating environment that supports the social, physical, and moral development of every child. Seymour is fully committed to consistent, effective safeguarding procedures that support children, families, and staff across our school community.

Staff, Visitors and Volunteers

All of our volunteers have taken part in a risk assessment interview with a member of the DSL team and are asked to provide ID and references. Volunteers undertake a DBS check as part of our safeguarding procedures.
